DAY ONE – CLOSED DOORS

Greetings! Over the next 30 days I am joining my friend Martin (author of The Silent Pen in Chosen) in a blogging challenge. Our plan is to post each day. Both of us have been in long dry spells and my hope and prayer is that this challenge will get me back in the saddle, as they say. This summer has just been wild – surgeries and recoveries, graduations for both our high school and college granddaughters, and a wedding reception for my grandson and his new bride. And Greg’s RETIREMENT, to name a few things! We have been happy to have Lincoln (12) here with us quite a lot in spite of all that.

He and I have done some reading about the Revolutionary War, and we’re working through a biography about Brother Andrew now. Of course there have been games and puzzles and laughter and food and ALL THE TALKING …

My favorite thing we’ve done is a five minute write pretty much every time he’s here. One of us picks a topic, we both write on it independently and then share. Often, they are wildly different from each other, and sometimes downright hilarious.

And sometimes not. I’ll leave you with one from last week.

Closed doors: What is behind the door and why is it closed?

(By Lincoln)

Heaven Is behind the door. The door is closed because it is locked. It is locked because we lost the key. The devil tries to convince you “It’s gone don’t bother looking for it.” You need to push the devil out of hearing distance. It takes a true relationship with God to have the persistence and to find that key and even more to use it.

Closed Doors: What’s behind the door and why is it closed? (by me)

Well THAT is an interesting question! The first thing that comes to mind is when I really want something (or think I do) and for whatever reason I cannot have it.

SLAM!

This can be so frustrating and yes, upsetting. But if I can change my perspective just a bit … and do some remembering … I realize that even though I’m disappointed I must acknowledge Who shut the door.

If God shuts it (and that’s usually the case) I am wasting energy fighting to open it.

So what’s behind the door? I can guess, and plan based on my guesses, or I can wait patiently, because I can always trust Him to only open the “right” doors for me no matter what I think I want. I know I can because he’s proven it!

Behind the door, if I wait for God to open it, is His very best plan for me. And that’s all I REALLY want – what He wants.

(PS – when Lincoln sent his writing to me he said, “I went full on spiritual on this one!” Yes, yes you did!)

  1. Hey Angie, lovely to hear from you again. A blog challenge… every day… That’s sounds wonderful and I hope you and Martin can inspire each other the great heights. Really, very cool. So sad to hear you had more struggles with your health. I need to do more praying for you, and I will. Reading Brother Andrew? Ha, one of my favorite Dutch role models. I met him once and was deeply impressed by him talking about ‘Father’ so naturally that it was clear he lived with Father every moment of the day. I also love Lincoln’s perception of the great door. I may translate that for my Dutch readers. It’s pretty good. I am in the middle of my treatment, and starting to feel weak as a wombat (You didn’t know wombats are weak, did you? I didn’t know it either, until just recently) But, hey, it’s going great and I am climbing the mountain. Blessings to you.

    • You met Brother Andrew!! Lincoln and I both think that’s very cool. Praying for you as you continue treatment! And weak wombats … haha good to know. Also good alliteration!
