DAY FOUR: I’M NO QUITTER

Sadly, my brain isn’t braining today. Despite having several good ideas, I couldn’t manage to pull anything remotely meaningful together.

So instead here’s a peek into me.

This is what my writing paralysis looks like. I have an idea. The story half writes itself in my head, and it seems good! But for some reason, I cannot make the words flow when I sit down to write.

My usual approach has been to set it aside until inspiration strikes again. Now the problem is that it’s quite unlikely I will ever revisit the “half story.” You wouldn’t believe all the notebooks I have full of good ideas! But if I can’t sit down and write a story easily, I know I’m on the way to forcing it and that does not make for good writing.

So, I’m left with either no writing or bad writing. And that’s how so much time goes by between stories.

Does this resonate with anyone, about writing or anything else? How do you work through the paralysis? Really. I want to know!

I’ll be ready tomorrow I promise – I have so many ideas! 💜

  1. Ha. Sorry to hear Angie. Usually a prompt helps me. I used to be part of a Christian writing community and they wanted a story a week for their contest. Crazy prompts like ‘Google” or ‘Peaches’. I had no clue as what to write, but as I started, ideas would form and flow. Some of my funniest stories materialized there. It doesn’t have to be deep. Once you have it on paper it’s out and you can shape them more into what you want. But, obviously, I too have my days when I am far from my writing home, struggling through muddy mountain paths where I sink in the muck and the mire or seem to slip into the abyss of unhappiness.
(Lots of snakes there ) Usually though, the key for me is, when I truly have the time, is just to start, let the engine rattle, and start driving. So much to see and discover.
    PS: Lovely picture btw.
