Dissatisfaction. It’s so easy for me to fall into it, for so many reasons I can easily justify.
Here’s what that “justification” really is though: rationalization.
If I peel back the top emotional layers and peer into my dissatisfaction I’m surprised at what I find.
When things didn’t go as planned.
When there is an unhappy surprise.
When I’m bored.
When I’m lonely.
When I fail.
Lots more I’ll keep to myself, but all of those things lead to a deep soul dissatisfaction. The temptation is to fill that soul hole with feel-good things, or avoid and ignore them.
But where does that get me? Exactly nowhere. Because I’m not dealing with the real question:
Where does my satisfaction come from?
If I’m looking to people places and things, I might feel temporary satisfaction (pride?) but it’s not sustainable, and when the next hard thing comes along it’s gone.
Lasting satisfaction does not depend on any of that. It depends on where I’m looking and most importantly WHO I’m looking to for the deep soul satisfaction that I think we all crave.

So here’s to dealing with real questions. Do we trust God to satisfy us?
Hey Angie. Thanks. I was thinking of one of my favorite poems when reading your post. I place it here: (It’s called Eventide by Caroline Briggs)
At cool of day, with God I walk
My garden’s grateful shade;
I hear His voice among the trees,
And I am not afraid.
I see His presence in the night, —
And, though my heart is awed,
I do not quail beneath the sight
Or nearness of my God.
He speaks to me in every wind,
He smiles from every star;
He is not deaf to me, nor blind,
Nor absent, nor afar.
His hand, that shuts the flowers to sleep
Each in its dewy fold,
Is strong my feeble life to keep,
And competent to hold.
I cannot walk in darkness long, —
My light is by my side;
I cannot stumble or go wrong,
While following such a guide.
He is my stay and my defence; —
How shall I fail or fall?
My helper is Omnipotence!
My ruler ruleth all!
The powers below and powers above,
Are subject to His care:
I cannot wander from His love
Who loves me everywhere.
Thus dowered, and guarded thus, with Him
I walk this peaceful shade;
I hear His voice among the trees,
And I am not afraid.
Wow! I love this – thank you for sharing!
Hmm… I didn’t see my comment. Did it get published?
It did! 🙂
